I explore how the things we love can love us in return; I specifically love to look at music and translate sound into tangible objects.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
My favorite work to create is interdisciplinary, often taking form of large-scale paintings or installations. I'm interested in translating the auditory experience into something phsycial, something that can be seen, felt, and moved through. My works become environments, allowing viewers (and myself) to stand within sound, be one with it, and turn listening into a spatial, embodied experience. I use realism and pop-culture imagery to be approachable but my work deals with deeper subjects.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in music, currently shaped by neural research into why we're drawn to certain music. I look at how they embed themselves into our day to day life. I look at the bands I grew up alongside and the music I return to now, considering how they've built environments of familiarity, stability, and emotional grounding. I look at how music has shaped not just what I hear, but how I move through and understand the world.
What would you do with $25,000?With $25,000 I would continue my artistic practice as I continue into Graduate School. I am currently working towards my Masters of Fine Arts and would use this money to help me further this degree and create projects that further push my concepts. I would love to make projects in the future that further push my concepts surrounding neural research and what it means to be a fan of something and how human that is. I want to further devotional work and create environments where love is nurtured.
