Art is my tool for understanding my experience. Then, a language to communicate that experience to those struggling to find the same words

I create abstract portraiture confronting the "ugly parts" of ourselves, and practicing intentional vulnerability– To share our insecurities, our low and mundane moments, and to learn to love those "ugly parts" we have gotten so used to hiding. For me art is the greatest form of communication we have. It is a bridge that wipes away Isolation. So I try hard to make work that is authentic, communicable, and impactful for those who need to hear someone say, "you're not the only one."
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration mostly in pain, in grief, in fear, in discomfort, and the relentless spinning of my own thoughts. Then I try to slow them down and put words and paint to those feelings so they can become something I am proud to embrace. I look to my friends and family, as well the strangers I see all around me. Everyone has something they want to get out. I just try to help them find those exits as I continue to search for my own.
What would you do with $25,000?If I received $25,000 right now, I would first consult my wife, haha. I plan to invest a portion of it into my larger scale project to bring awareness to the isolation caused by chronic illness. (Something my little sister has been enduring for the past twelve years). A portion would be donated to the Global Lyme Alliance, and if there is any left, it would go toward helping us build our little life.
