What I really look for in a project is something that resonates with life as I see it, human experiences, especially the beauty of aging.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
In addition to my love for the beauty of aging, I enjoy capturing mundane moments—my mother braiding her hair and getting ready to go out, my father fixing his watches, or my sister practicing her dance in front of the mirror before class—piecing it together through my eyes either using acrylic, charcoal, graphite, or colored pencils.
Where do you find inspiration? My family has always been my inspiration for as long as I can remember, a majority of my first works being copies of my father’s. When I was younger, I even pretended some of my father’s originals were mine. I like to sink myself into the background, making my household and everyday life as a film that I’m simply stealing snippets from to hold onto.
What would you do with $25,000?My father just bought me my first car last month, and being a graduating high schooler from a low income family, I know it will be a while before I can return the favor, so I would love to be able to pay him back in full and more for all he’s done. A portion of the money will be put into a college fund, and what’s left will be to treat my mom and little sister!
