I create to transform feeling into story, guided by the rhythm, culture, and spirit of New Orleans

My favorite art to create is fiber art, especially quilts that combine texture, color, and storytelling. I love working with fabric because it allows me to build layers that carry meaning as well as design. Each piece becomes a way to express emotion, memory, and inspiration drawn from culture and everyday life. I enjoy the process of turning simple materials into something that feels alive, dimensional, and personal.
Where do you find inspiration? My work is shaped by family and the living culture of New Orleans. Born there, with both parents born and raised there, I carry its rhythm, history, and spirit as foundation , even while living in Baton Rouge. That lineage drives my practice - layered, expressive and narrative in form. I'm also inspired by observation and materials themselves, where fabric, color and texture don't just support the work, they guide its direction as it develops.
What would you do with $25,000?I would use the award to expand my studio practice through new tools, training, and equipment, including silk screening, fabric printing, rubber stamp carving, dyeing, and painting on fabric. I also plan to study Mardi Gras Indian beadwork to deepen cultural influence in my work. I would invest in a larger quilting machine to support more ambitious, large-scale pieces and a wide-format printer to produce high quality reproductions and editions of my work.
