The goal of my work is to invoke individuals to reflect on themselves, their relationships with others and the natural world

I love to make pieces that connect my deepest feelings with current culture, or paintings that document how I feel after absorbing current events. For me, it is a way to process and analyze issues and evaluate how I contribute to the cracks in the systems around us. I do research before painting because it helps to refine my symbolism relevant to the piece, and generally throughout my work. I am able to learn, call myself to action, and think deeper about my role and purpose here.
Where do you find inspiration? My internal struggles and my juxtaposing feelings about the world that keep me up at night are most inspirational to my work. At times I have attempted to capitalize on my own misery and trauma, neglecting the grace I am worthy of as a human. I like to visualize and relate those feelings to the exploitation of the natural world. In my growth as an artist, I realize that I don't have to visit my worst memories to create great art. I've shifted focus from self-involvement to community engagement.
What would you do with $25,000?-$5000- I saw a creator do a block party for the unhoused, and would really like to do something similar -$2000- kid's art day! I could do a monthly kid's art class for the rest of the year. -$18000- Recently I did a mural at a Teen Center in Kinston, NC to try to liven up the after-school space. I would love to continue doing murals unpaid but can't afford to do so very often because I work in a lab full time. This money would allow me to complete 16 free murals for community spaces.
