Raised in the Soviet era in Tbilisi Georgia, art became my freedom where other expression was limited, now it’s my voice beyond language.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
My favorite art to create is conceptual and symbolic. In the closed society with limited expression, meaning had to be layered and encoded underneath the surface. This is what shaped the kind of art I am drawn to as a viewer and as an artist, I see art with a sense of nuance carrying emotions, memories, and even quiet resistance. Through these concepts I find the most passion in engaging in work that invites interpretation and reflection which allows depth beyond what is immediately visible.
Where do you find inspiration?Inspiration for me comes from slowing down everyday moments and finding meaning in them. Life itself is inherently an intimate experience with subtle gestures and pauses by people, the way lights shift a space, and unspoken tensions that usually gets unnoticed. By observing these instances that are often felt but not distinctly seen you can translate and put a spotlight on them in an intentional manner through art.
What would you do with $25,000?I believe creative outlets provide a sense of confidence and identity, I know this is what art did for me and I wish I had such holistic access to it earlier. I would use the $25,000 to help my two daughters get through college, giving them the freedom to focus less on financial restrain and more on self expression especially through a type of art. This will allow for a space of exploration and growth and truly finding themselves to navigate life with more assurance and deepness.
