My favorite type of art to create is something different and experimental. I enjoy trying new mediums, painting on found objects that I scavenge for; such as glass or tile, and pushing the boundaries of what a painting can be. I work primarily in oil paint and enjoy combining my practices such as painting on my 35mm film photographs in a process calling color tinting.
Where do you find inspiration?My biggest inspiration for creating are the bugs and insects that live all around us. I’ve always been drawn to these creatures and not only do I find them visually beautiful but I feel a deeper connection to them. Bugs are often overlooked and seen as pests or scary when they really have so much to contribute to the world and are just living their lives as we do.
What would you do with $25,000?With $25,000 I would have the opportunity to begin a project I have been dreaming of: traveling across the United States by car, observing and interacting with all the insects and bugs that live here. On this trip I would create oil paintings of my experiences and show the world just how necessary and amazing bugs are. With this opportunity, I would also be able to afford a studio space to continue my practice and be able to get supplies such as oil paints, brushes, mediums and canvases.
