I am a Traditional Mohawk Potter. There are currently only 15 Traditional Potters. I feel connected/guided by the knowledge of ancestors.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
My favorite type of Artwork to create is Traditional Haudenosaunee (People of the Longhouse)/Mohawk Pottery. I also really love to make Sculptures, particularly about different elements and stories about my Cultural Heritage. I also enjoy painting.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration from my family as well as from my Community Members in Akwesasne Mohawk Nation Territory. Some of the inspiration includes our History and living Culture including singing and dancing as well as the dream to keep all of this alive for future generations yet to comeā¦
What would you do with $25,000?I would Finish my Art Studio, and add a small off grid cabin onto my property located in Akwesasne Mohawk Nation Territory. I would do this in order to be able to have a place for other people/Artist whom want to learn how to make Traditional Mohawk Pottery. They could then come to Akwesasne for an Artist Residency. I could also host a variety of Workshops. This would help support the Continuation of my Culture and Traditions. Not only in Akwesasne, but beyond. Everyone would be welcome.
