Nathalie Bermudez

I love creating because it’s the bridge between me and my culture and hometown. Living outside my culture it’s been hard.

What is your favorite type of art to create?

I’m drawn to creating intricate line work while exploring form and color. I primarily work with acrylic on canvas, blending elements of social realism and abstraction. I also incorporate digital processes, often combining them with acrylic and mixed media to expand the possibilities of each piece. I like create pieces that tells about what’s happening in specially in Hispanic, Latin cultures.

Where do you find inspiration?

My work is inspired by identity, ancestry, and the layered experience of migration. I’m especially drawn to the strength and presence of Andean and Latin American women, and I explore how beauty, memory, and territory are shaped by both personal and collective histories. I’m interested in the tension between visibility and erasure how certain features, stories, and identities are often overlooked or redefined.

What would you do with $25,000?

I love creating and developing new work across disciplines. I wrote a play about immigration, and this support would allow me to bring it to life by combining my visual art, writing, and theatre practices. My goal is to fully realize this project and share it with an audience, creating work that is both visually and emotionally impactful. I would for sure buy more materials to create new body work but my main goal is the combination of all practices.
