NEBA.

I love Art because I get to play with ideas all day, and turn random thoughts into things people can connect with. It’s like witchcraft.

What is your favorite type of art to create?

Figurative art is my favorite type of Art. I’m not sure why but I have a huge thing for Humanism. The work itself could be a painting, drawing, print, sculpture or photograph, depending on whether that medium best conveys the idea.

Where do you find inspiration?

Dialogue. I like to probe people. You can make a lot of work from people’s stories: their wisdom, experiences, biases, doubts and certainties. I read a ton of African literature, religious texts and news reports too because they bring my work back to the realities of my environment. I’m also inspired by other artists. Sometimes when I see a new technique or material another artist has used, I get restless until I try it out myself.

What would you do with $25,000?

I’d curate a group exhibition with my peers. We’d use the funds to make Art, rent a space, publicize the event, buy some wine and put on a good show. I’d also send supplies to Cameroonian children who are currently displaced by the Anglophone crisis, because their situation is very unfair.
