Photography is my outlet to show the truths of myself and society as they are and learn things about myself and others from a single image.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
Photography is my favorite art form to create because of how expressive it can be. I'm also attracted to it because it's an art form that holds responsibility for documenting the truth, for anyone in front of my camera and behind it. Even though you get pieces of a story from one image. Photography continues to make the viewer dive into a piece, no matter the process. I also enjoy the medium because it is heavily involved with chemistry, which proves that arts and science can coexist.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in myself and the political climate around me. I've made protest work, images about my culture of being a mixed child, and now working on a series about what it's like being in my 20's. I like to make work about things people can relate to. My images are concept-based to invite viewers to step inside my work and see and feel things. If my work does not make you feel something, in my work its not doing what it's supposed to do.
What would you do with $25,000?With $25,000, I would start my dream business creating a third space for artists to come work, rent a studio space, and hold classes in different media like alternative processes in photography, ceramics classes, and offer mentorships. This space would also allow for galleries for local artists and offer critique sessions. I would also love to invite college and high school students to use the space as well and create an environment where everyone is welcome.
