Mystic landscapes in oils and acrylic are my favorite. I start by putting acrylic paint down first, any kind of way, and eventually I see what is coming forward. The patience I have learned with detailing still amazes me when the piece is complete, especially using oil. I love to bring out what has been hiding in the layers, and I love the vision I get to bring to life. It is a slow, honest process of discovery. And I just stay with the canvas until the place I am looking for is finally here.
Where do you find inspiration?My inspiration comes from my dreams, my emotions, and the paint itself. Sometimes I am trying to capture a place I saw while dreaming, and other times I am just moving the brush based on how I feel that day. But most often, the inspiration happens right on the canvas. There isn’t a plan unless I do a random sketch from an idea I have and I let the colors come to me. It is a mix of what is inside my mind and what the paint wants to do. I just follow with the flow of it all.
What would you do with $25,000?I would use these funds to invest in my growth and network with the broader art world. I see my work moving from my bedroom to a global stage, reaching the eyes they are meant to see. To have an exhibit would be a first opening dream come true and connect with those who value an intuitive, yet soulful creation. This prize is the bridge I need to scale my process and dedicate my time to creating on a level that the world can finally see and experience with me.
