I create art to process my internal world and to better understand myself and others. Creating anything with my hands grounds me.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
My favorite type of art to create is probably oil paintings, that is the art form I work on the most. I also love to make costumes and sew, recently I’ve been trying to add a sculptural element to some of my paintings and I’m excited to experiment. If I had to choose one medium in the world it would be oil paintings.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration everywhere in life, my kids, my loved ones, all of nature, animals, people everywhere. There are no shortage of things that inspire me. I have an extreme love for painting portraits because humans inspire me. I love to see the depths of someone, the parts that might not sit on the surface and learning about people, observing the uniqueness of an individual is inspiring.
What would you do with $25,000?With $25,000 I would probably do some upgrades to the ventilation system in my studio, the smell of oil paint and my solvents (even as natural as I try to be with them) tends to be overwhelming at times. I would also get more art supplies, no big surprise, I think most artists have an addiction to art supplies lol. Lastly would probably take my family to Japan for a vacation and an inspiration overload. Travel is so inspiring and this has been a bucket list trip.
