My favorite art explores liminal spaces. Hazy in-between places that are neither one thing nor another. I’m drawn to the soft edge where pond meets shore, forest dissolving into glade, and the charged stillness after a thunderstorm when heavy clouds still veil the sun, an isolated stretch of empty highway. On canvas I chase the same ambiguity. The joy is in the dialogue between control and surrender, realism and abstraction, capturing that quiet, electric moment of transition.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in quiet transitional moments most people overlook — the soft, uncertain light after rain, at dusk, or before dawn, when the world feels suspended. Everyday liminal spaces spark ideas: empty roads at twilight, half-lit corridors, parking lots as day turns to night. I absorb these through long walks and quiet observation, letting them settle in memory.
What would you do with $25,000?I would first address necessary repairs to flood damage on my home and fix broken vehicles. These practical fixes would remove major stressors and create the stability I need to focus. The rest of the funds would then go directly into my art: quality oils, inks, larger canvases, and materials I’ve been rationing. I would be able to work at a larger scale and dedicate consistent time to painting. This prize would be transformative, giving both my life and my creative practice the room to grow.
