I create hybrid art that combines gold smithing techniques & painting of hiking trails which are metaphors for labyrinths and pilgrimages.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
The type I mentioned above that combines new explorations into metal smithing as applied to painting. The Dutch painted on copper as a substrate in the 1400's but not like this!
Where do you find inspiration? My main inspirations over the past 40 years have been the human form and nature. Getting to be a Guest Artist in Residence for 3 years in Cypress Hills, Saskatchewan was a highlight of my art practice. At that time I was working through some personal issues with a lot of inner growth. The hiking trails grounded me spiritually and remain significant in my symbolism for the inner struggle and journey.
What would you do with $25,000?I would finish setting up my jeweller's studio so I no longer have to rent space at our local arts centre where I also teach drawing and painting. I would update my website and ways to expand the number of galleries carrying my art. I am currently a juried professional artist with the Saskatchewan Craft Council, displaying in their boutique and am also in Dandelions Art and Frame, The Lobby Gallery, Art Now and The Broken Spoke Gallery.
