Receive Text UpdatesI create work that drifts between figuration and abstraction, holding the joy, softness, and complexity of being a Black woman. My figures emerge, dissolve, and bloom—never fixed. Softness leads, while strength and sometimes a touch of playfulness move alongside it. My work invites recognition—a space to feel seen, whole, and gently held. I want those who encounter it to pause and feel a quiet, soulful knowing: “Alright now… I see you. I see the one I love. I see me— and I exhale, knowing.”
Where do you find inspiration?Growing up, the matriarchs embodied strength woven from quiet endurance—Beneath that steadiness, sheltered and deeply held, lived softness, whimsy, laughter, and a knowing gentleness, shown only within the quiet circle of deeply loved. That duality shapes my work. I don’t see strength and softness as opposites, but as intertwined truths—resilience threaded with tenderness, humor, and inherited understanding.
What would you do with $25,000?My desire is to expand the scale of my pieces. I would invest in higher-quality materials, rent a studio that allows my work to grow in both presence and intention, and fund photoshoots to explore more nuanced figures and themes. This support would give me the freedom to take creative risks, deepen my visual language, and push my practice to the next level. It would also allow me to expand my art practice and explore opportunities I might not otherwise be able to access.
