I paint as a means to challenge societal norms while exploring connections between the past and present.

I’m drawn to creating large figurative paintings, building up layers of oil paint and sanding them back until the form fully emerges.
Where do you find inspiration?I draw inspiration from imagery in American culture that reflects social divisions. Using visuals from children’s books, comics, and advertisements, I create paintings that encourages viewers to question political, social, and cultural ideas.
What would you do with $25,000?I’d invest it directly into my studio practice—scale up my work, secure better materials, and give myself the time to focus fully on painting. Larger canvases, higher-quality oils, and the space to experiment with layering and sanding without rushing the process. I’d also document the work more intentionally and put some of it toward exhibiting, so the paintings can actually enter into dialogue with viewers beyond the studio.
