I create art because art has consistently fed my soul, and I want to return the favor.

I love making work about the human figure, especially women. One of my artistic goals is to cast a light on female sitters as subjects of art rather than objects of art. Often I depict women in spaces they share or control as a way of emphasizing their presence. My work is my way of speaking out for my gender, making other women feel seen and giving them art they can relate to outside of voyeurism.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration everywhere. I love to meet new people and watch their mannerisms, and that gives me new ideas everyday. I also love art history. The work of Henri Toulouse Lautrec and Egon Schiele are some of my favorites, but I also adore contemporary artists Nan Goldin, Cindy Sherman, and Jenna Gribbon. I'm also inspired by the feminists and the punks, more specifically the Guerilla Girls. My worked is inspired by an amalgamation of the things that make me, me.
What would you do with $25,000?In the event that I was awarded $25,000, I would want to put it back into my community. In the future I want to start an artist's collective or a community art space, and with the award I would be able to acquire a studio space, a rolling press, and other supplies to start. The goal is to create a shared space with my community, so that artists who don't have the facilities or tools to work will have somewhere to foster their creativity.
