I am a storyteller and Art is the language I tell them with. At my best, I am an instrument through which the universe expresses itself.

I am drawn to narrative art. I aspire to make art that has a striking aesthetic impact and is substantive in its message. My work tends to be figurative sculpture... laborious figurative sculpture. My favorite type of of art to create is the type that if I've laid down the bones of it right, and I've kept my tools sharp, and the Muses are kind, I can just get out of the way and be a medium for whatever is guiding my hand. I can't always get there, but when I do, Art is a privileged vocation.
Where do you find inspiration?I am inspired by our beautifully flawed species. Out light lights, and our dark darks. My latest inspiration is a man I met at a taco truck under an overpass across from a home depot. His body was doubled over and his hands were baseball mitts 5 shades darker than his face. "Tengo manos de monstruo porque trabajaba todo mi vida". His back was broken from a fall from a roof, yet he carried himself with authority. He cleaned my table with those hands and I regret that I did not think to shake them.
What would you do with $25,000?I would work on an installation that speaks to our tendency to demonize each other. I have the central piece i, a figure with a human, and a rooster head reaching out to a mirror. A rooster will attack it's own reflection. The human side, sees himself and recognizes it's kinship. I would make a seated General/King figure on a throne with an egg on his knee painting a scowl on the blank egg. I'll hang a row of chickens from hooks ala Chinatown, with mirrors on both sides to appear infinite.
