Creating is like breathing for me. I have been given a gift. My legacy is to share it by teaching and creating.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
My favorite type of artistic expression is painting. I enjoy the visual narrative of cityscapes and portraiture. It doesn't matter whether it's watercolor, oil, acrylic, or pastel; the processes share common elements of perspective and light in their expressions.
Where do you find inspiration? As a teacher at an Art Academy, I started 35 years ago, creating a curriculum that exposed me to contemporary artists and art history. In working with my students, traveling, and fine-tuning my own practices in personal study, I can experience those elements that spark my inspiration. Every day, in the most common of places, I see things that delight me enough to share them through artistic expression.
What would you do with $25,000?If I were fortunate to win, I would apply the $25,000 to art scholarships for students wishing to study art through our program. Thus, any barrier to continuing education would be alleviated. When I was a child, there were no art classes for students like me. Our program covers ages 5 to adult. Art gives time quality in the pursuit of becoming better at your craft, building knowledge and confidence. Mentoring these students will foster growth and, for future generations, provide the gift of art.
