I have always, since I can remember putting a pencil to paper, been fascinated by the human face. Especially eyes. However, traditional portraiture fell a bit short for me. Just capturing a likeness turned out to be missing something for me. So, through much soul searching I began to draw and paint imaginative or surreal portraits. Somehow this way of working expresses my deepest thoughts and what it is I want to communicate to others.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in the history of art, people, music and life in general. The life stories of others, the different circumstances we are all born into and the paths we take. The human condition and human existence baffles me and inspires me at the same time.
What would you do with $25,000?Winning the $25,000 would supply secure funds to pay for my studio space. I would also use it for professional services to help grow my career. Last but not least, it would allow me to take some time off from my full time teaching job to focus only on my own art work. I have never had a time in my life where I did not split my own creative time with another job to support myself, may family and my art. That would truly be more wonderful than I can express.
