I create art because I can’t not create art.

My most favorite type of art to create would be bold, expressive abstract paintings, using acrylics on canvas, woodboard or paper applied with pallet knives, brushes, fingers, reeds, forks, sponges and spatulas. I also enjoy capturing my animals’ portraits on canvas. I’m an occasional late night radio dj who spins obnoxious punk and noise rock- that would be my second favorite kind of art to create.
Where do you find inspiration?I draw inspiration from my life experiences, emotions, Miles, Iggy, Sly, Alice, Henry, Gibby, Lemmy, Marianne, Patti, Frank, Marvin, Lori, Aretha, and many many more gods & goddesses who have warped and broken my poor old brain and sustained my soul.
What would you do with $25,000?I’d fill my art studio with new acrylic paint , buy some canvases, pick up some new records and if there’s anything left, I’ll make a donation to CAIR MN, a nonprofit here in Minneapolis which advocates for the civil rights of Muslims in Minnesota. When I first started painting I was working at CAIR and I’d come home very vexed by the stories of terrible hate crimes and discrimination against folks from the Somali community, and I took my angst out on my canvases with paint and pallet knives.
