What is your favorite type of art to create?

I create abstract paintings that are full of layers. I work intuitively but guided by the natural world and the marks that flow from the action. Expressing inner and outer worlds through these movements and finding the composition that way is so satisfying. It’s about processing emotions and life and sharing that through paint. Feeling expressed in paint for me say more than the words I can find. The outside world feels crazy so I am interested in creating environments I would want to inhabit.

Where do you find inspiration?

Walking to the beach at sunrise, watching the beach change with every tide. The same place yet nothing is the same. Feelings and emotions that lead to connections between people. My dog, excited to explore with new eyes a place that she has been a million times before. Seeing the world through the lens of a woman who has lived a full life. The stories passed down through generations that I get to share. The act of painting, feeling it in my body, hands and heart.

What would you do with $25,000?

I would invest in my business to be sure my branding and message are clear. I have a series that I did inspired by a friend who died from ALS after an almost 10 year battle at the age of 34. I want my work to raise funds and awareness that will lead to a cure. The money would free up time and resources so I can focus on that body of work. I not only create because I love it and I must, but I know I can make an impact and make a difference with my work as my voice.
