Paula Jacobson

Creating isn't optional for me. It steadies me and creates space for more complex questions and concepts to take shape.

What is your favorite type of art to create?

I’m most drawn to making abstract, geometric work that feels more like a space than an image. I build it through repetition, pattern, and small disruptions—so your eye moves, pauses, and settles into it. It’s less about a single idea and more about creating an experience. I like when the work holds a kind of tension and balance at the same time—something you don’t just look at, but spend time inside.

Where do you find inspiration?

It usually starts with deep internal listening—just noticing how things repeat, shift, or fall slightly out of sync. Nature, lines, marks, pattern, movement, energy. I keep coming back to underlying structure—how simple forms show up everywhere, shaping both the natural world and how we move through it.

What would you do with $25,000?

I’d use part of the funds to build a simple website so people can actually find and engage with my work. I’d also put money toward building a small studio on my property—I’ve outgrown the scale of working at my coffee table. The rest would go toward hot shop time, collaborating with a glass artist to begin translating some of my 2D work into 3D forms and environments.
