I call myself a multi media artist who loves to break bread with many styles of art. My two favorite kinds of art to create is hyper figurative work that moves and shakes the earth as spiritual and ancestral beings. I also LOVE creating abstract expressionistic works that are uniquely abstracted from the brushstrokes and partial compositions from my hyper figurative work. I also love creating huge sculptures that speak back to the paintings in a quiet and stoic way!
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in the resilience of human kind. I am moved always by the falling and rising of the human spirit. I am deeply inspired by my ancestors both African and Native American. They are the ones who sacrificed and paved the way for me. I am inspired by their strength and stubborn determination to push boundaries and to boldly state their existence in this earth story. It is my honor with brush and paint and wood and clay to tell the story of our existence!
What would you do with $25,000?It would be lovely to be awarded $25,000. I would first take some time away from teaching and focus deeply on my artistic practice. It would be a dream to rise up early and paint and sculpt and draw all day. To be able to have time to continue to create monumental work would be a beautiful way to honor my ancestors who passed so much to me. Art is another way of speaking to the world. I want to tell our stories.
