My art is evidence of the effort its taken to survive as a trans Kansan. If it makes you uncomfortable, good. Nothing is earned comfortably.

I was put on this Earth to collage! I love using a variety of methods to achieve different textures, including photography, printmaking, flocking, & fiber arts in my work. I love making tactile & interactive work including an aspect of installation when I am able to. I'm personally drawn to the human figure, so collage is my favorite way to get all the organic details in my pieces. A lot of my art is about gender, grief, & memory, but the reactions I get are my favorite part!
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in patterns I recognize: how veins are shaped like rivers and tributaries, human curvatures are landscapes, and everything is connected. Art that engenders a physical reaction has always impacted me the most. Anything that resonates a feeling akin to hearing nails on a chalkboard usually sticks with me for a while. I aim to illicit the same reactions from my work! Movies, assemblage arts, and music often have innovative materials and themes that inspire me visually.
What would you do with $25,000?I am an active volunteer in my community trying to spread the joy of art with others in my city. I would live off of some of the money, but ultimately would be buying more art supplies to fund the community activities I host. I started a mutual aid group for Trans Kansans in my area. As a rural Kansan, $25,000 is life-changing, and it would go towards furthering my artistic endeavors and ensuring I can comfortably continue to show up for my community the way I have been.
