The arts are all I ever known. It’s an escape from reality, allowing creativity and. It is a therapy and response to the world.

My favorite type of art to create is painting on any type of surface like wood or canvas. Not so much of drawing, but it is hard to escape from it because it goes hand in hand with painting. I also like to create ceramics, even though I am a beginner. I enjoy creating ceramics that displays imperfection and defies smoothness and neatness. Finger indentations are visible in some of my pieces. I think that this sort of ideal can make the public think that art is not perfect.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration within my experiences, interests, social justice, and history. When I am given a prompt or theme, I usually go with what pops up in my head and then go with the flow. I notice when art is preplanned, it tends to lead to "What is next? Is it really finished?" That is one of my admirations for art because it is never finished, it is a never-ending process of creativity and ideas.
What would you do with $25,000?With the finances, I would like to try to open an exhibition or gallery in my city. Latinas only make a small percentage of having a role within the museum, exhibition, or gallery space. That is why I would like to make a difference by being part of that small percentage and increasing that statistic. On top of this, I would like to give back to my family who has supported my career, or academic career, within the arts.
