It feels good in my soul to paint. Its an outlet for me. I love to show the beauty in the world and create a moment in time on canvas.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
Oil on canvas is my favourite medium because it lets me really move the paint around and adjust shapes, colours, shadows, and light. Another bonus is that my palette doesn’t dry out right away, which helps save a lot of paint. Oil paint is also great for creating texture and building up layers in a piece. It adds a sense of movement and makes the artwork more interesting.
Where do you find inspiration?I'm inspired by nature, light and shadow. The way sunlight moves through glass and leaves, reflects off fruit and buildings and shifts the colours found in things like water, snow, flowers and fruit. Taking the time to notice those unexpected hues is something I find exciting.
What would you do with $25,000?This fall, Kingston Roller Derby is heading to Iceland for a game, and I have the chance to be part of something truly extraordinary. Opportunities like this don’t come around twice. I’m working hard to save up so I can go, because this trip would mean the world to me, a memory I’d hold onto forever.
