What is your favorite type of art to create?

I am a photographer and textile artist working with the cyanotype process. I have loved photography from a young age beginning with the magic of a summer camp disposable camera. I use images, taken both analog and digitally, to create cyanotypes on a variety of surfaces. I love cyanotype’s approachability, deep blue hues, and ability to be transferred to textiles. Recently, I have been practicing an important family tradition of quilting these images together.

Where do you find inspiration?

I am inspired by the deep, unspoken truths between people, being apart of something outside of yourself, giving attention to small details and hoarding memories. Photography is a place to seek softness in my life, to slow down and appreciate a place or feeling.

What would you do with $25,000?

With $25,000, I would love to travel and shoot film and develop my cyanotype work. Travel is something I find great inspiration in, but has been difficult financially for me to achieve. The money from this award would help me travel and shoot more imagery, to document other places and experience the world on a bigger scale.
