I love to create textile art and illustrations. I often use handmade pigments, recycled materials, eco-friendly materials, and economical supplies, like my old clothes or discarded cardboard. Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in my surroundings, imagination, memory, heritage, and hoarded supplies. I create the kind of soft Black semi-abstract artwork and illustration I was not seeing in museums and galleries when I started my arts administration career in the 2000s and 2010s. I want my work to be family friendly to share with diverse audiences in everyday spaces.
What would you do with $25,000?I have experienced housing insecurity in my adult life because of heartless 'landlords' including my former studio and living spaces. My art practice is dependent on holding down a day job which means fluctuations in employment or wages impact my artwork. Survival comes first and the prize money will allow me to set down roots and flourish in my art journey.
