Creating art lets me express my humanity, reflecting on what I see & feel- hopefully inspiring reflection, dialogue & action among viewers.

I love creating work that repurposes cultural artifacts to explore the relationship between objects and socio-cultural and economic discourse, highlighting the meaning and evolution of value. From coins, film, newspapers, and most recently art prints, I reconstruct and investigate human constructs, simultaneously affirming & querying values and symbols of identity. As a former GM assembly-line worker, I have a deep appreciation for manual labor & repetition, which I incorporate into all my works
Where do you find inspiration?I draw inspiration from tuning into my environment and its multi-faceted layers, from culture, politics, economics to science and most importantly, the impact of all these on the 99%. Based on the topic resonating the strongest for me at that moment, I start scribbling down ideas. This leads to sketches w/ mix media that ultimately transitions to canvases or sculptures - suited to the medium that best conveys my perspective. Each series can take years to fully explore, becoming part of who I am.
What would you do with $25,000?I have conceptualized an app that has 2 main purposes: first, linking people dealing with poverty to homelessness shelters, food banks, open kitchens, and anti-poverty associations. Second, each artwork — whether at an exhibit or on my website — features a QR code that viewers can scan, explaining the piece, my goals and the role they can play. The app also provides opportunities to visit the websites of these organizations, where viewers can donate directly on the spot.
