I’m interested in the poetics of form and capturing a mysterious moment on the verge of happening.

I love making sculpture but in recent years have not had the space to work three-dimensionally and pivoted to drawing. Both modalities can be rewarding for different reasons but ultimately I find satisfaction in rendering familiar forms and images in ambiguous ways.
Where do you find inspiration? Many of my images and forms are initially derived from generic objects of utility—space age vehicles, farming equipment, the concrete bars that mark a parking spot–or inadvertent situations that result from the circumstances–a pile of pallets covered in a green tarp, a plastic dumpster lid as it melts in the heat. Generally, I pull a single gesture that I like from something that I’ve seen in the world and co-opt it into something more ambiguous, that suggests kinetic potential.
What would you do with $25,000?I desperately need a studio space for making sculpture. Apart from studio rent, I would purchase some needed tools, including saws and a router, for my studio. I have plans to fabricate small editions of sculptural works and the prize money would be gratefully instrumental in getting that project off the ground.
