I love creating art that blends history, spirituality, and emotion, especially rooted in Black experiences. My work explores ancestral memory, pain, and healing through powerful imagery like figures, landscapes, and celestial elements. I tell stories that were silenced, while bringing God into my paintings as a source of presence, protection, and restoration.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in my lived experiences, the stories of my ancestors, and the history that still lives through us. I’m drawn to moments of pain, strength, and resilience within Black culture, and I translate those into visual form. My relationship with God guides me—through prayer, reflection, and quiet moments. I’m also inspired by nature, dreams, and everyday life in Louisiana.
What would you do with $25,000?If I win the People’s Artist Contest and receive $25,000, I will invest in my art career by purchasing high-quality materials, large canvases, and studio equipment. I will create a powerful series that tells untold Black stories rooted in history and healing. I will also fund gallery submissions, framing, and marketing, while setting aside funds to support my children and build a stable future through my creativity.
