I'm a global citizen, seeing the beauty of the world and people around me. I spread joy & humor with my art, using it to combat injustice.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
My favorite type of art to create is black and white film photography. I enjoy human interest subject matter, such as vignettes of small town life, as well as portrait photography. I also like creating composite images, merging elements from multiple photographs into a final image. I am often inspired to create works that relate to the words written by poets. I'm happiest when my work invites the viewer to find their own meaning, and brings a smile, or evokes other emotions.
Where do you find inspiration?I find my artistic inspiration in the world around me... the little things that often escape our notice. In our "immediate results" world, I try to slow myself down, listen more than I speak, and observe the signs of our shared humanity. I travel to small towns and look for the things that give the residents their sense of communal identity. Even with sights and landmarks that are familiar, I take time to find a new vantage point or perspective, a fresh take on a familiar scene.
What would you do with $25,000?One of the challenges faced by small artists like myself is having money to print new works to display in galleries and at art fairs, so I'll use funds for that. I'd also use the funds to pay for entrance and application fees for exhibitions and residencies. Additionally, our artistic mission is to promote the common good through art, so I would reserve a portion to donate in support of other artists, especially artists with disabilities in my community. Oh, and I'll treat Johnny Depp to lunch.
