Oil painting is my passion. My art begs the question of how feminine power shapes the commonwealth and how that power has changed over time.

I find portrait painting the most captivating. Learning about the individual you want to paint and using oils to capture their unique qualities is an intimate and deeply personal process. I am often inspired to choose close friends and family members as models for my work. Oil paint is an ideal medium, as it is capable of capturing the subtleties of the human form and the softness of expression.
Where do you find inspiration?I am inspired by ancient Egyptian and Roman mythology. These stories have endured the trials of time because they contain universal human truths. From tales of love and loss to complex political struggles, they speak to something intrinsically human. I have taken to incorporating ancient heroes and gods into my work, asking the questions: how would they interact with contemporary society? And what can we learn from their trials today?
What would you do with $25,000?I would use the funds to support the development and presentation of a large-scale exhibition. I would further explore the characters of Homer’s Odyssey, creating an immersive series of works that examine themes of power and what it means to be a woman in a male-dominated culture. Characters of interest would include Circe, Penelope and Scylla.
