My favorite type of art is portraiture with a naturalism and surrealism blend. The beauty of the body and human emotion is what compels me to capture moments of humanity. It allows for the works to invite the viewer into their narrative and create a visual language that speaks through each work.
Where do you find inspiration?Inspiration comes in various forms but ultimately is found in every aspect of my life. Music helps guide the emotion and build a soundscape that resonates within my relationship with the work. Fashion helps me add another layer of storytelling. Being in community, witnessing people’s stories, and hearing oral histories passed down through generations guides my practice. There’s beauty in archival findings that draw a connection between the past and contemporary that fuels my creative process.
What would you do with $25,000?With the $25,000, I would take a portion to help produce my Thesis Defense Exhibition for my MFA program at Howard University. To create an immersive installation and bring my storytelling into fruition. I would save a good portion as well to help secure a studio space to continue producing new work. Begin investing in my brand, producing prints of work and building my clientele within the market as an emerging artist.
