Robert Johnson

I believe art as an expression is undervalued. It's tapping into infinity. Making art makes me feel like I can create anything and invent.

What is your favorite type of art to create?

Metal jewelry has my heart (copper mainly), but I'm hoping to create and invent functional art. I've learned through crafting jewelry that the world is ruled by consumerism and convention/convenience than actual desire and expression. This needs to change.

Where do you find inspiration?

My inspiration comes from many content creators and individuals who share their work online. I've dabbled in alaskan native art over the years, but I gained traction when I started working on copper. Making jewelry as an expression and way of living shifted my perspective. I thoroughly enjoy seeing someone wearing my work proudly. I come from a long line of native craftsman and I think that plays a big part in it.

What would you do with $25,000?

Oh, to dream! I'd buy all the supplies I need for my journey to being a jeweler and take relevant classes. I'm going to be 45 this year and I want to buy a vehicle and travel the USA as an artist for a year. I want to start my business and want to work for myself. Anything over 5,000 would help me start my brand. I think I'd keep 10,000 for business and give the rest to my ex-wife.
