My favorite type of art to create is retro 1980s graphic design surrealism vapor-wave pop-art. Having been born in the 80s, I feel like it was fate for me to be inspired by this era creatively. I’m also inspired by the graphic design in this era that includes vivid colors, sharp lines, and various colorful gradients. The 1980s vaporwave aesthetic will always hold a spot in my colorful heart.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration life experiences, traveling, art history, and above all - my mother. Experiencing life in a foster home and a women’s shelter with my mom and brothers have fueled me to be the best creative person I can be in life. Through these rough experiences I’ve always turned to my favorite artists like Rockwell, Frazetta, Rembrandt, Warhol, O’Keeffe, and Ruscha for creative inspirational fuel. I believe these all add up to a wonderful suite of tools for my creative life.
What would you do with $25,000?I would pour it back into my artwork with my goal of selling my new paintings and donating a portion of the proceeds to various food banks and charities. I’m committed not only to sharing my art with the world but also to making a positive impact. My goal is to create art for good and this award would help me in that endeavor. Thank you!
