Mixed media. Beginning with photography (a marriage of science and art), I appreciate the photographic medium for its powerful storytelling and jumping off point. What happens when we wish to create abstract imagery? I explore the abstract in my mixed media works: lens-based, digital, as well as painting with traditional mediums. Because of my love for transformative color, I focus on subjects found in nature and interpret them using bright colors, creating an energetic result.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration everywhere, in places, people, and seeing other artists'/creators' work. To make art I am inspired to learn new skills, research materials, and experiment with mediums. I like working with my hands, utilizing many tools, and materials. Inspiration comes when I am fully engaged in making work. Hands on, I let the piece lead me ... I become a channel and allow the work to speak to me. Inspiration, an invisible force and a great strength, appears and disappears -- nurture it!
What would you do with $25,000?How I would use the monies: - To fund ample studio space for a period of time to make larger scale works - Material costs: supplies for larger mixed media works; production costs - Simultaneously seek avenues to share my work more widely in an attempt to secure a gallery/galleries representation to develop/enlarge my present collector base - Pursue/apply to residencies to place myself in stimulating environments in which to make work and be in communities with other artists/creators
