What is your favorite type of art to create?

My interest centers on art that explores the tension between body, memory, and displacement, where the human figure ceases to be stable and becomes a field of transformation. I’m drawn to languages that engage fragmentation, materiality, and symbolic charge, generating images that do not aim to represent but to provoke experience. I favor processes that integrate the sensory and the conceptual, creating works that operate as spaces of friction rather than closed narratives.

Where do you find inspiration?

I find inspiration in my experience as a Cuban artist in exile and in the conditions of displacement that shape my work. My training in Cuba and migration create a tension between structure and rupture, producing a fragmented view of identity, memory, and belonging. I approach identity not as representation but as internal instability within the image. Living between Cuba and the United States creates a duality that functions as a constant creative tension in my practice.

What would you do with $25,000?

I would use the $25,000 primarily to strengthen the material production of my work, investing in higher-quality materials and processes that allow me to expand its scale, density, and complexity. This would increase the physical and conceptual impact of the work, enabling more experimental approaches and assemblages. I would also allocate part of the funds to professional documentation and a portfolio for national circulation in the U.S., as well as exhibition logistics in different spaces.
