Ruta Wilson

It's not about making art for me as much as preserving old tools and farm implements keeping their shape and perhaps to be used again .

What is your favorite type of art to create?

My favourite art to create are animal sculptures as they seem to be the most recognizable things to make. A lot of the pieces I use are farm implements to create my sculptures which shapes seem to lend themselves as beaks, wings or very sharp talons. I put them together before welding them as sometimes different welds are needed to secure them in place. My Mad Max Mind wants to keep pieces intact so that after the apocalypse they can be dismantled and used as the original tools where intend

Where do you find inspiration?

It usually starts with one unusual piece of metal and slowly grows as I puzzle and fit the parts together to create a congruent unmistakable object or creature.

What would you do with $25,000?

I would like to visit some other artists in the scrap metal field to learn some things about welding that I'm not familiar with.
