Connect What is your favorite type of art to create?

I have always been drawn to painting. So I am primarily an oil painter but I love working with pastels, watercolor and collage as well. I also paint and dye fabrics and canvas which are then repurposed into soft sculpture and clothing. Sculptures I make are often an assemblage of found objects that are then reimagined.

Where do you find inspiration?

Most of my work comes from my relationships, time in meditation and resonant experience of the world. I love photography and use found images, collage and my own photos for inspiration. Music is also a huge part and I play as well. Sound, rhythm and dissonance shows up in the work in many ways. Such as the colors used, movement of strokes and composition. The great painter Wassily Kandinsky termed Synthesia where he could hear color, I use a lot of his theory to inform how I use color.

What would you do with $25,000?

I would be able to devote half the year to being in the studio without worrying about finances. I would invest in some specialized classes to fabricate some of my ideas into clay, wood and metal. And lastly, I would indulge in some travel to places of inspiration such as Berlin, Paris and London.
