With a baby crawling at home, my attention is constantly divided—art is where it isn’t. For me, there is no “type” of art anymore. I’m about the moment when the work is the only thing in the room. Easel set. Paints poured. Brush in hand. It’s not about the medium; it's about entering a space where I’m not needed by ANYONE, and there's nothing more important than my brushstrokes. That’s the only work I’m committed to making.
Where do you find inspiration?Wouldn't it be great if we could just call for some inspo...and it comes? That's not real life. I don’t go looking for inspiration—I must trap it when it crosses my path. It bubbles up most when restrictions on my life become unbearable: I have no escape but for the small, sunlit alcove in my home, luring me with the scent of oil paints and mineral spirits. Motherhood didn’t replace my practice; it intensified my calling in short, violent bursts.
What would you do with $25,000?The practical woman in me says "throw into a high risk S&P, and let it sit", but I desperately need to hire help. I would buy time and protect it. That means in-home childcare. Not as a luxury, but as a necessity for serious practice. I already work to inspire other art moms to continue investing in their craft, and that our lives do not stop after birth. With $25k, I can put that money where my mouth is and PAINT. Just paint. We cannot and will not lose ourselves in motherhood.
