Over the last 15 years I’ve been writing, directing, & producing a narrative catalogue titled: ‘The Patrick Dashwood Stories’. Currently the portfolio is in the form of 1x Novel, 9x Short films, 1x Feature Film. In each story Patrick Dashwood is the main character but always played by a different actor. These stories are often playfully surreal with dark comedic tones. Directing Patrick Dashwood movies is my favorite kind of art to make.
Where do you find inspiration?Up until recently I was really just using ‘The Patrick Dashwood Stories’ as a tool to externalize and organize the chapters of my life - at the beginning of all this, my idea/main observation was that, between birth and death, we all seem to live multiple lives - but, on average, we keep one single name through them all. What opens and closes the chapters of my personal life always seem to be a hard-learned/earned life lessons. So “lessons” have been my inspiration- but that’s since changed.
What would you do with $25,000?With $25k I would make the next Patrick Dashwood Movie titled: “Binoculars Are Stupid”. It’s gunna be really good, I swear. It’s actually gunna be much less about the artist (me) and more of a surreal and philosophical commentary on the current world at large. Themes I’m exploring in the next one: Authenticity, the internal battle between Joy and tragic loss, & I’m also working to paint both a fun and darkly-serious portrait of how far from life’s simple pleasures we’ve drifted.
