I’ve been a creator for as long as I have been alive. Art has always brought me into a space where I don’t hesitate to be true in every way.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I specialize in crime noir romanticism with dancheong style elements and motifs, and I take my reference from Hispanic and Latino cultura, which happens to be what surrounds me in my daily life. Black ink by brush and spit along with brightly colored acrylic is what I use most often
Where do you find inspiration?I am Korean American and I take inspiration from the toxic marriage of my strict upbringing fighting against my intense desire to obtain money and power to elevate my status. I feel often like there’s 2 creatures pulling me in opposite directions and that’s why I go from months of black talens ink on arches paper to stretched canvas and every shade of Behr satin enamel paint
What would you do with $25,000?I would pay my very patient , supporting and trusting landlord Mr Ray in advance for the bottom floor to expand my studio and open a licensed tattoo and floral shop. This building has so much history. I bought my first tattoo machine from Tim and Irene, who ran this place called Mom and Pops tattoo supply, and sadly he died on the top floor, but years passed and I moved in, and I’m committed to keeping their memory alive and continue to expand my business and portfolio. Maybe even hire somebody.
