As a formerly incarcerated artist I have learned to find freedom in my limitations. Creativity and art opened up much curiosity and wonder.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
My art is rooted in abstract expressionism with a focus on social advocacy. Using acrylic on canvas, I translate the raw intensity of human resilience into color and form. This creative drive began during my time in prison and has deepened through my current work on the streets of Victoria. Each piece captures the "abstract bursts" of emotion found in survival and trauma, transforming the stories and connections I experience daily into a visual dialogue for community awareness.
Where do you find inspiration? In human connection…Working with Victoria’s homeless community, I find inspiration in the raw spectrum of daily emotions. While trauma, mental health, and addiction are front and centre, and the loss of life is a heavy reality, the resilience of those who survive is profound. Much like my own time while incarcerated, these interactions are defined by strength and survival. Every story shared and every soul I connect with moves me forward, turning these intense moments into the heart of my art.
What would you do with $25,000?Invest in a small rented studio with some new art supplies…and purchase socks and some hygiene items for my clients living on the street.
