Connect What is your favorite type of art to create?

I’m drawn to art that pulls people into another world—something that stops them. Work that may feel shocking at first, then turns into recognition. That moment where someone says, “damn… I’ve felt that.” My graphite pieces aren’t just my experiences—they’re shared ones. Pencil on paper grabs attention, but the goal is what comes after: when the viewer sees themselves in it.

Where do you find inspiration?

Within the struggles I see people go through. Often, I have been there myself or at least I think I can create. My art is good, it shows I am able to draw with a pencil - pretty well actually. But people need to see through that and then you will truly see what it is. It is the bond connecting 'that memory' when you see yourself in that moment of sadness, you've been there, you've done that. Again, this is much deeper than a pencil could ever be. People struggle. I draw the outlet. We all have.

What would you do with $25,000?

I would use the award to expand my work and share it with a wider audience, while also giving back through liver health awareness. After my transplant, I gained a new perspective on time and purpose. I want to speak openly about that experience, especially to younger people, and use art to create connection, encourage awareness, and remind others not to take their health for granted.
