I create because I must. The need comes from within. I am lucky to have found the perfect medium to explore my work, neon.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
The main focus and medium is traditional glass neon. Working with neon offers the convergence of art, craftmanship and science. The golden triad in my mind. Out of this comes a final piece that glows with life and transforms a space, and with luck, the viewer as well. The ultimate for any artist is to move the viewers needle somewhat, relating them to an experience or a piece of their own life, allowing them to connect the dots within their own experiences.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration within relationships with others. My work explores the duality of love. Paralleling humans, neon itself glows with life, it has a life within created through an electrical current which, somewhat unexplainable, illuminates in a warm magical way mimicking one’s soul. And much like humans, an ever-present fragility exists. Once neon breaks and the gas escapes, the life is lost. This metaphor combinations to create emotionally driven, layered work.
What would you do with $25,000?With the award I would mount a themed collaborative open call exhibition wherein I would offer neon collaborations with other artists. I feel it would be important to offer the collaboration to not only established artists but to up and coming artist offering a new outlet for their creative expression. I have been making art all my life as a full-time career and I feel as though artists need to give back to the community in a dynamic way.
