My art rots, melts, crumbles and fades to demonstrate the importance of living in the present. I came here to meet my tribe.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
My job is to spread joy. I do this through the use of unlikely materials linked to my childhood. So whether it's sand, snow, ice pumpkins or chalk, It's just waiting on me to tap into the natural joy locked within.
Where do you find inspiration? My dad was my greatest inspiration. He was diagnosed with terminal cancer when I was just 2 years old. I watched him struggle, rebound, thrive and suffer for 17 years. He gave me the the best childhood I could ask for because he gave me his time and supported creativity. He passed at the age of 39. After I graduated, I spend the next 20 years working as an auto mechanic. At the age of 39, I walked away from it all to start my artistic journey. I'm now 20 years in and greatful for everything.
What would you do with $25,000?I would fund a 20 ton sand sculpture display for my hometown. When kids of all ages see one of my massive sculptures it sparks instant curiosity and spontaneous joy. I can see no better way to invest in future artists by generating the spark that drives new artists towards impossible goals.
