I’m most drawn to ceramics—both sculptural and functional forms. Clay is elemental: earth shaped by hand, transformed by fire, and returned to everyday life as objects meant to be held, used, and lived with. I love creating pieces that feel as if they emerge from the earth itself—forms that carry the marks of the hand and the quiet story of their making.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in the quiet forces that shape both landscapes and people—nature, history, and the transformation of raw materials into something lasting. I’m also continually inspired by my students. After nearly three decades as a high school art educator, their curiosity and willingness to experiment remind me that creativity is always evolving.
What would you do with $25,000?If I were fortunate enough to receive the $25,000 prize, I would invest it into expanding my ceramic studio practice and creating more opportunities for students and the community. Better equipment and materials would allow me to explore more ambitious kiln-fired work while helping young artists discover the creative possibilities of working with their hands.
